ECA offers an academically challenging programme, with flexibility to meet the needs of individual students. Our instruction is guided by A Beka - a strong, integrated, Christ-centred curriculum - alongside the national curriculum developed by the Ministry of Education.
At ECA our preschoolers enjoy an array of academic studies including Bible, pre-reading and reading skills, writing skills and mathematics fundamentals. Our programme focuses on molding children spiritually, academically, and developmentally, thus meeting the needs of the whole child. Enriching activities including Spanish, art and craft , music, and computer are also key to the programme’s success. Emmanuel Christian Academy Nursery also offers:
Our kindergarten students benefit from the A-Beka curriculum’s comprehensive reading programme. Beginning with letter sounds, students progress to reading words, sentences and stories. Their vocabulary and language skills are enhanced daily, as they learn about animals, famous people and faraway countries. Games and activities including poetry, art and music are integrated within each subject, so that each session is engaging and captivating. Importantly, Bible time is a favourite for ECA’s Kindergarteners as they listen to Bible stories, sing songs of praise, and learn God’s Word.
In addition to the A-Beka programme, ECA’s curriculum at all grade levels is guided by the national curriculum developed by the Ministry of Education. As well as offering a high quality of teaching and extra-curricular activities to our students, we also have a commitment to ensure that our pupils receive the best pastoral care and support so that they feel happy and safe here and are therefore able to thrive and achieve academically. Our Student Services team are all trained to work with young people and as part of the team we have a Counsellor who specialises in children and young people’s counseling.
ECA ranks among the top schools in the island for our performance in national examinations. In 2015, 30 out of 39 students (77%) who sat the GSAT examinations achieved an overall average score between 84% and 100%. The cohort which sat the Grade Four Literacy and Numeracy tests in 2015 also excelled. Of the 49 students, 100% achieved mastery in literacy, and 96% achieved mastery in numeracy.
ECA is listed among Gold Standard Performers - one of 64 top performing prep schools in Jamaica meeting the Gold Standard. Of the approximately 242 preparatory schools operating in Jamaica, only 64 (about 26%) are top performers.
